Tough question

During my regular visits to Hungary, my Hungarian relatives constantly ask me why Scotland is not independent. Embarrassingly, I had to tell them that the London establishment conditioned us over the decades to
believe that “the island is one
nation and that we are incapable of governing ourselves” (so that our vast resources can be exploited on behalf of the UK).

The Hungarians understand this through their history of
Austrian and Soviet domination, but what they cannot understand is that Scotland has democracy, so why are we not already
independent?

If the morning of 19 September turns out to be another 1979, I am going to be very embarrassed on my next visit to Hungary.
