Tory leadership

In response to the “Ruth babes” letters (15 October) how sad that your correspondents think that by using some clever PR the Scottish Conservative Party can be saved.

Conservatives need to look at themselves rather more deeply than that. The public’s perception of the Conservative record in Scotland during the 1980s and 90s is what we are up against. That and the fact that although we work hard for our party, and have just had an excellent leader, we have seen the vote for us fall year by year.

A reborn centre-right party is sorely needed and Murdo Fraser is brave enough and strong enough to bring this about. Why otherwise would more than half the Conservative MSPs be supporting him?
