Since taking over this iconic hotel and its famous Ailsa golf course he deserves a huge thank you from all the golf administrators for the fine work he is doing.

The community are delighted and, I would add, grateful for what he has achieved so far and I am certain the top lady golfers competing this week in the Ricoh Women’s British Open will agree.

Since his arrival in Scotland five years ago Mr Trump has built a world-class golf links in Aberdeenshire and is now ploughing a massive amount of his own money into improving and raising the standard of the famous Ailsa Course at Turnberry.

He claims it will be one of the finest courses in the world when the work is completed in 2016 and, from what I have witnessed so far, I would agree.

Those who seem to take pleasure in trying to knock Mr Trump for his foresight and looking to the future development of the game are misguided.

His comments on Mexican immigrants should play no part in Scottish golf and I am sure the R&A, who have backed his ideas and vision, will not wish to take Turnberry off the Open rota. After all, it is simply the best.

As a long-standing member of Turnberry Golf Club I am sure I am not alone in saying that golfers wish him all success.

The jobs created and the money already spent are of real benefit to Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire. It was good to notice too that the world number seven, Suzann Pettersen, is not frightened to give Donald her backing as she too appreciates he is a force for good for golf, no matter where it is played.

Mr Dempster should come to Turnberry and see developments for himself and perhaps then as a golf correspondent he will add his support to Mr Trump.
