This 'conservation' is a sham

Until the problem of global warming arose, conservation charities seemed to have it all their own way. They only had to use the word "conservation" and members flocked to support them. The impact of their activities on the natural environment was never questioned; but not any more.

Such charities have transformed conservation into a theme-park culture of countryside fairs, visitor centres, market stalls, viewing platforms, car parks, etc, indistinguishable from the tourist industry and an anathema to conservation.

Their activities, and the activities they encourage in others, contribute substantially to global warming. It is a travesty for them to describe themselves as "conservationists" when they are exploiting the natural environment for their own limited and idealistic agendas. Such is their obsession with all things genetically pure and "native" that they are killing wildlife they deem inappropriate.

In 2001, I conducted an e-mail survey of 43 wildlife trusts, asking if they killed wildlife. Of the 36 which replied, only three said they did not. Unbelievably, birds are being shot on RSPB "reserves" for fun and recreation.

The word "conservation" should be restricted to those who can prove they are conserving the natural resources of the planet. The public would then have a clear view of the difference between true conservation and protectionism being passed off as such.
