The word is out

Robert Russel is right to point to the abuse of the (British) English language (Letters, 6 August) but I am afraid any such protestations will fall on deaf ears or, in this case, shortsighted eyes. We are increasingly at the mercy of “Americanisms”. George Bernard Shaw got (can I say that?) it right: we are two countries divided by a common language.
