The label

Anglo better fits the identity of people who feel themselves to be part of the society the English built, an identity that owes something to the imperialism of a French-speaking monarch, King Edward I, and an English speaking one, King Henry VIII, round table and all.

Another dynasty, the Anglo French Stuarts, also made some input into the British thing with the Brits and Brets themselves ever more-marginalised in places such as Wales, Cornwall and Brittany. More locally, the Brets of the region Manau Gododdin and also Strath Clwyd are only remembered by those with a historical bent.

I believe the English face a similar fate and need to look to their own corner, although in my estimation the tipping point has passed without them recognising it.
