Taser dangers

As an epileptic, my opinion of Tasers' "non-lethal" status is at odds with the manufacturers and users of these weapons (your report, 6 February).

Tasers work by disrupting the voluntary (electrical) control of muscles. All nerve cells in our bodies work by electrochemical action, and the greatest concentration of nerve cells is in the brain.

If I was near someone at whom a police officer had fired Taser darts and they missed their target and hit me, I think it is safe to say I would have a strong seizure at the very least. Perhaps it would be my last.

It was once the proud boast that we didn't have to arm police officers in this country. Now it looks like they're fast becoming "Robocops".
