Talk of the Town: SuBo stunt double finds hell toupee

IT seems there is no stopping the rise of global mega-star Susan Boyle.

The Blackburn singer's new album, The Gift, was released yesterday, and she can expect to be mobbed by fans when she signs copies of her autobiography, The Woman I Was Born to Be, at Waterstone's Edinburgh West End today. And if that were not enough, the 49-year-old even has her own stunt double.

Eleana Young stood in for SuBo recently in scenes for a video being shot on the top of a cliff overlooking Loch Lomond.

Boyle had been shooting the video for her version of Lou Reed classic Perfect Day, but conditions were so bad that the star's management worried that they hadn't insured her for an accident, so the lookalike was called into action.

The double didn't have an easy time - a sudden gust apparently whipped her Boyle-style wig from her head and into the loch.

Melbourne gloater puts trams in the picture

IT is perhaps not surprising given all the problems, but now it seems the beleaguered tram project has made Edinburgh an international laughing stock.

In a video posted to YouTube, a resident in Melbourne takes great delight in mocking the stalled project with video of the fully-functional Melbourne tram system.

The video states that Melbourne has "lots and lots" of trams, pointing out that "they even move!"

It also compares the rather small Edinburgh route map with the multitude of stops available to residents Down Under, and compares pictures of the shambolic Princes Street tram works with pictures of the gleaming Melbourne trams gliding through leafy suburbs.

For those residents up in arms about the tram fiasco, however, it also ends on a happy note, suggesting that "It will be nice when it's finished".

Fry and fry again ...

SUSHI is a dish best served raw - but not, it seems, when it's being cooked up with a Scottish flavour.

Following in the footsteps of delights such as the deep-fried Mars bar, Yo! Sushi has put a twist on the Japanese national dish to create . . . deep-fried sushi.

The deep-fried Salmon Katsu Roll is part of the restaurant's new Kill Chill winter menu, which will soon be available at the Edinburgh branch in Harvey Nichols. The dish includes a crispy breaded futomaki of Scottish salmon, avocado, wasabi masago and mayonnaise, served with a warm wasabi sauce.

Those "kitchen ninjas" behind the creation insist it is delicious - and, unlike other deep-fried delicacies, healthy too.
