Talk of the Town: Navel gazing

IT'S the royal portrait which is bound to raise a few eyebrows - a portrait of Kate Middleton with a sapphire belly button stud.

The work by artist Laetitia Guilbaud - the Glasgow-based artist who famously depicted Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon as "Naughty Nicola" - will go on show at the Capital's Braewell Gallery the day Kate and Prince William return to the university where they met to kick off its 600th anniversary celebrations.

And while it might not be one the royal couple want to snap up, they will no doubt be grateful to hear that part of the 1200 price tag will go towards William and Kate's charities which they are to nominate for wedding donations.

A TALE to remind us that the city's young people aren't all about anti-social behaviour - far from it.

Georgina Elder tells us she accidentally left her shopping trolley in Tolbooth Wynd in Leith on Thursday night and was at home before she realised. In a panic, because it contained her medication, she raced back to the scene and after scouring the area was en route to the local police station when she spotted it with two girls and a boy aged around 12.

The group had been scouring the area looking for the owner and were themselves on the way to hand it in at the local police station.

Trolley and owner reunited - and faith restored in the Capital's young people.

MP expects a panning

HE'S no stranger to competition, but Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray's latest challenge is slightly different to fighting for a place in parliament.

Mr Murray will be showing off a whole new set of skills when he takes part in this year's charity Rehab Parliamentary Pancake Race outside the Houses of Parliament on March 8. He said: "I'm very proud to support Rehab this year by competing in the parliamentary pancake race. It's great fun taking part while at the same time raising awareness of the services that Rehab provides."

The race is open to MPs and Lords from across the country, and TOTT is sure that they will all play fairly.

A very important date

IT'S one of the most iconic scenes of Alice in Wonderland, and its key phrase was: Don't be late!

But next month the Mad Hatters Tea Party is to be recreated at a Prestonpans watering-hole... and it's unlikely a cuppa char is all that'll being quaffed. The only dress code for the bash at The Gothenburg is a silly hat. Tea-pot-tails rather than cocktails will also be on offer at the bar in a nod to the Lewis Carrol novel. The fun takes place on March 12.
