Talk of the Town: Gary becomes first comedy iPhone app

HIS bizarre observations and wisecracks about life in the army have become a popular fixture on Scotland's comedy circuit.

Now Gary: Tank Commander - the brainchild of a Morningside comedian - has become the country's first comedy application for the iPhone.

Greg McHugh's character has just embarked on a second series on BBC Scotland, and it is hoped the iPhone app will boost his popularity even more.

Thunderbirds are go . . unlike mail deliveries

THE Royal Mail today unveiled its latest set of stamps, celebrating the work of puppet pioneer Gerry Anderson.

The stamps feature images from cult classics such as Stingray, Captain Scarlet and, of course, Thunderbirds - and there is even a set of "motion stamps", the first of their kind, which when tilted back and forth show the iconic opening sequence of Thunderbirds.

Of course, this will be little relief to the hundreds of residents still waiting for mail caught up in a huge backlog created by the snow. Perhaps the Royal Mail could commandeer Thunderbird 2 to help out with deliveries? FAB.

Elton makes genuine choice

PROUD new parents Sir Elton John and David Furnish had an entire galaxy of stars to choose from when hunting for godparents.

But the happy couple have shunned the spotlight and instead chosen close friend Ingrid Sischy, 58, and her partner Sandy Brant as godmothers to baby Zachary.

Ingrid, who studied at George Watson's Ladies College, is understood to be one of his closest friends and it was reported that the couple were "two of the most genuine people that they know".

Given the circles they move in that might not be saying much.

From the snow sculptures dotted around the city to the illuminations of the Winter Wonderland, the Capital once again came alive over Christmas.

Of course now the festive season is over the city can return to normal - normal in this case being a man in a gorilla suit playing the drums at the end of Princes Street.
