Talk of the Town: Dungeon theft will give men the willies

CHEATING fellas beware. An infamous castration device has gone missing from the Edinburgh Dungeon.

The so-called Chappy Chopper, once used to bring an end to the philandering ways of some of the Capital's most notorious medieval lotharios, vanished from the museum's torture chamber on Monday.

Worried bosses at the dungeon have even offered to swap the instrument for a souvenir to avert possible disaster. Unfortunately for some it is thought that a wronged woman could be the culprit.

Gentlemen, you've been warned.

NEWHAVEN is still reeling from the loss of its beloved general store, Crolla's of Newhaven, which closed this year after 115 years of trading.

Owner Mark Crolla has been granted planning permission to turn the old store into a flat, but it has had one other change of role first.

The crew of Bollywood film Mausam descended on the shop, turning it into a set for the film, which features Bollywood superstar Shahid Kapoor.

A temporary shop sign saw it become "Kashmir Home", but with the heavy rain beating down outside during filming it must have been monsoon season in Kashmir.

Salt set for comedy season

THE original Willy Wonka film's Veruca Salt plans to pepper the Edinburgh Fringe audiences with laughs - with a little help from her real-life stalker.

Julie Dawn Cole, who starred as the spoilt brat in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in 1971, was tracked down by Aussie Matthew Hardy, who has fanatically watched the film throughout his life. Hardy, who says Cole was his first crush at the age of five, came up with the idea to cash in on their odd friendship.

Now the duo - who insist they have a love-hate relationship - come from rave reviews at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, entertaining crowds about how the film impacted their lives.

It's your typical love story.

Nicola's Jolly fine news

CONGRATULATIONS to former Miss Scotland and Edinburgh resident Nicola Jolly, who has announced she is expecting a child with new husband Garreth Wood, son of engineering boss Sir Ian Wood. The pair got married in the city's St Giles' Cathedral last August and are currently putting the finishing touches to their home in the Capital. They say they have no preference on whether the new arrival will be a budding model or business tycoon. Either way, it's sure to be a bonny baby.
