Lush goes out on a limb for runners

WHOLESOME cosmetics shop Lush is well-known for the tempting scents that waft out of its doorway to ensnare passers-by.

So its staff are brave (or perhaps foolhardy) to take on something that might engulf the shop in a rather less enticing whiff for a day.

On 23 May, the day of the Edinburgh Marathon, Lush is offering foot treatments to runners in exchange for donations to the Sumatran Orangutan Society, which supports conservation projects on the Indonesian island.

Coalition tie is knot lost on familiar Conservative faces

DAVID Cameron did better than just honour his pre-election pledge to come to Scotland within a week of being elected Prime Minister. His visit to the Scottish Parliament on Friday came less than 72 hours after he entered Downing Street – and even before officially going to Westminster.

Entering the parliament's garden lobby, where a crowd of staff, MSPs and media was waiting for him, Mr Cameron made a bee-line for a face he recognised – Edinburgh Pentlands MSP David McLetchie. Mr McLetchie pointed out to journalists he was wearing his "coalition tie" – blue stars on a pale yellow background.

Let our future stars rock

THERE was a time when "Camp Rock" would conjure up images of lycra-clad glittery glam groups – but parents better hope there will be none of that at this band camp.

Edinburgh is set to host its own "Camp Rock" in August, with the launch of a school holiday activity camp for the rock stars of tomorrow.

The School of Rock – with tents – will offer a week of jamming, guitar, drum and bass coaching, singing, songwriting and stage performing to youngsters in the Capital.

Budding rockers will study the finer points of the artists such as Green Day, Kings of Leon and the Foo Fighters.

The camp will also give aspiring stars the chance to perform live on stage and make their own DVD.

Time to clear this all up

CONFUSION is rife across Edinburgh over whether the council has forgotten how to spell the name of our fair city.

Callers contacting the Evening News have expressed their bewilderment at seeing "Edenburgh" emblazoned on rubbish lorries making their way through the city.

Fear not, the council has not gone completely bonkers.

Edenburgh is a new campaign executives have come up with to promote pro-environmental behaviour, like recycling.

Residents are being asked to choose whether they want to contribute towards a clean, green and safe EDENburgh or a dirty, littered, wasteful EdinbURGH.
