Taking sides

Isn’t it the case that money, not education, “remains the key to escaping the cycle of poverty” (Perspective, 14 March)?

Perhaps we should take
Ockham’s razor to much that is written about poverty and how it can be solved.

A simple definition of poverty is not having sufficient means to satisfy one’s basic material needs.

Hence, in a money economy such as capitalism, poverty is
endemic in the market economic system. Monetary rewards are distributed unequally, like the boss of a leading bank getting £142,000 a week.

Educational opportunities for all, even if made possible, will not effectively change the distribution of income.

Abolishing poverty in capitalism means making a moral choice, namely to say: “Whose side are we on?”
