Taking it easy

Like many of your readers, I am expecting a drop in the price, and the size, of golf instruction books, DVDs and the like.

For years, golfing hackers like me have avidly soaked up the advice of professional golfers in chapters typically entitled “How to play when it is windy”. In these chapters, the authors usually advise us golfing mortals to take a wider stance, move the ball back in the stance, and, most famously, “when it’s breezy, swing easy”.

Well, after this year’s Open at St Andrews, when play was extensively suspended due to the wind, we now know the real solution: “When it’s breezy, stay in the comfort of the clubhouse.”
