Tactical voting

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson calls for tactical voting in the general election. Her argument appears to be
that basically 60 per cent of Scots are not Nationalist supporters and if the natural majority of us, as in the referendum, voted tactically they could keep the SNP out.

Many Scots, I am certain, Tory or not, would sympathise with her view.

It may mean for some voting with a peg on your nose but the greater good of all is at stake.

Nationalism has always been at heart an appeal to the most base, tribal instincts of human beings.

With some adept and cynical manoeuvring, the SNP in Scotland has widened that basic tribal appeal to include the have-nots in our society.

The “all things to all men”
approach has brought polling success to date but it really is
impossible to fool all of the people all of the time.
