Superior service

THE Law Society of Scotland has announced that it will offer membership to paralegals.

A society spokesman explained the “offer”: “We are seeing more and more work being carried out by people who are not themselves solicitors. What we are doing is reflecting how the legal market is changing.”

Many clients would contend that if more work was “carried out by people who are not themselves solicitors”, the quality of legal representation would be instantly enhanced. For years many clients have endured spectacular ineptitude masquerading as legal “representation”.

Unencumbered by the inflated sense of self-importance that follows the acquisition of a one dimensional law degree, paralegals could conceivably offer a far superior “service” at a much lower cost.
