Stuck in a groove

I ATTENDED Stockbridge School from 1944 to 1951 and I remember that, periodically, a list of accidents involving Edinburgh children was read out.

The memorable ones included boys hanging on to the backs of lorries and falling in the path of following vehicles; trying to jump on or off moving buses or trams; and cyclists somersaulting over their handlebars when wheels got wedged in tram rails.

The latter came to mind when all the rails reappeared in Princes Street. No headgear worn in those days though!
