Strike a balance

I realised on Wednesday, with considerable sadness, that The Scotsman has abandoned any pretext of balanced reporting.

I had listened to the interview on BBC Radio Scotland with Dr Priestly of Stirling University’s School of Education on the results of its survey on the new curriculum, which was interesting and informative.

I then read your alarmist headline, “Failure at the heart of the Scottish school reform”, which fitted neither the interview I had just listened to, nor, indeed, the main content of the article.

At a crucial juncture in the debate on the future of our country we need balanced, careful reporting and reasoned argument and not hysterical headlines.
