Stop crazy trams scheme

With reference to Edinburgh's trams (your report, 10 January), we are told there will be a "short-term road closure" of Shandwick Place until August. Businesses will be affected not only in Shandwick Place but in all other roads used to accommodate the diversions.

When Princes Street has been closed for parades, etc, we all know how congested these other roads become, with no parking in Melville Street, Manor Place, Queen Street and George Street.

We are told the latest closure is temporary, but when the trams are running, Shandwick Place and Constitution Street will be permanently closed to all traffic except buses and taxis.

What has been spent on this ridiculous scheme should be written off as a "lesson learned" before we are met with a huge financial disaster. Stop now before it is too late.
