Sporting chance

AS WE prepare to remember the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, there have been suggestions that the unofficial truce of the 1914-1918 world war, which featured a football match between the warring factions on Christmas Day should be replayed near the area to mark the ceasing of war for a day.

If this does happen, then surely the method should be for the game to be played using the youth of today’s world to signify the integration of so many nations who were at war at the beginning of the 20th century?

Sport does much to make our world safer and by marking a moment when humans put aside hatred for Christmas, together with the participation of the youngsters whose future world we now live in, we may gently boost the chance to make our world that little bit happier and a safer place.
