Sport role model

Interviewed shortly after winning her gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Amy Williams was asked if she would be celebrating her victory (your report, 22 February). She said she would, but had to wait until the Olympics had come to an end – more than a week later – since she was bound by TeamGB rules to avoid alcohol for the duration of the games, even although her own participation was over.

What a contrast between the discipline of this unassuming young woman and our prominent international, and extremely well-paid, "professional" footballers, who seem incapable of going through life without alcohol and night clubs even, it seems, when there is nothing to celebrate.
