Something else

David Cameron promised in 2010 to look at why his party had not won a general election since 1992. Every now and again parties pick leaders because they are “not somebody else”. Labour picked Callaghan, Foot and Kinnock because they were not Benn. The Conservatives picked Hague, Howard, Duncan Smith and Cameron himself because they were not Ken Clarke. When parties pick leaders “who are not somebody else”, they do not win elections.
