Some leadership

I was not surprised at the claim made by Alan Clayton (Letters, 7 October) that the next generation of SNP leaders are “politically correct to their fingertips”.

I think the same could probably be said for leadership aspirants in all the major political parties, which is why we have an illiberal law like the blanket ban on smoking in enclosed public places.

To hell with the old bloke who lost a leg on the Normandy beaches, and who is now denied the simple pleasure of sitting by a warm fire on a cold January afternoon in a local pub, with his pipe and half-pint. It’s their world now and they will run it as they please.
