SNP were ‘hand-in-glove’ with Tories

Alex Salmond now claims that Scottish Labour will be punished “for a generation” for working “hand-in-glove, shoulder-to-shoulder with the Conservatives in the 
referendum campaign” (your report, 2 November)

Is Mr Salmond perhaps forgetting that he and his SNP colleagues worked “hand-in-glove, shoulder-to-shoulder” with Annabel Goldie and her Scottish Conservative Party in an informal coalition that lasted from 2007 to 2011?

Even if Conservative MPs and MSPs really were the monstrous villains portrayed by Scottish 
Nationalists and their leftist comrades, this would preclude absolutely nothing. Were Churchill and Roosevelt wrong to work “hand-in-glove, shoulder-to-shoulder” with Joseph Stalin?

Alex Salmond really should be more careful in demonising the Conservative Party in Scotland – with comments such as Labour paying a price for being in bed with the 
Tories.

It is not some alien, un-Scottish import – it is a party with deeper roots in Scotland than his own, and with a longer history.

In his continued inability to come to terms with the 
referendum result, it seems to have escaped his notice that the Conservatives 
were on the winning side, ie with the majority, and that his party is with the 
minority.
