Smoke signal

SINCE the establishment of our Scottish Parliament (your report, 6 September) there is little doubt that the most effective and successful piece of legislation for the benefit of all who live in Scotland was the smoking ban in public places.

We must now capitalise on this success by extending the ban to cover all cars and public places such as beaches and parks to eliminate inhaling smokers fumes and avoid ugly litter left by thoughtless smokers.

Other countries, aware of air pollution and an increase in breathing problems, have passed legislation to this effect with great success and it is vital that we follow suit and do all we can to improve air quality for everyone’s benefit.
