Slow thinking

BRIAN Bannatyne-Scott has listed some objections (Letters, 17 March) to the planned 20-mile speed limit.

However, he has omitted to mention one distinct advantage of the scheme: when an unsuspecting motorist, travelling along the streets of Edinburgh – the pothole capital of Europe – hits a particularly nasty pothole at 20mph, the ensuing damage to suspension is less likely to be as expensive (to the city council) as the one sustained at 30mph.
