Sincere sport

MORE gesture politics, it seems to me, when David Miliband makes such publicity about quitting Sunderland FC because of the arrival as manager of an
ex-Celtic FC player who has indicated fascist preferences in a manner more indicative of
volatile personality than politics (your report, 2 April).

Who would take the politics of Paolo Di Canio seriously?

He is in the same repertory theatre sports company as Eric Cantona, who philosophised about seagulls following boats.

Anyway, hasn’t the older Miliband brother said he is quitting politics and going to work with a charity in New York?

And, how could he fulfil his Sunderland role if he is working in New York?

Regular cross-Atlantic commuting while heading up a charity for the needy? Come on! Somebody’s not being sincere here, and it isn’t Paolo Di Canio.
