Sign of the times

Richard Lyon (Letters, 27 August) is quite right to highlight the issue of obscured road signs around Scotland, but sometimes when supposedly in clear sight, they are either dirty, or their white backgrounds are not prominent enough in the Scottish gloom.

It is perhaps time for the Scottish Government to undertake a review of road signage in Scotland to ascertain whether
changes should be made to suit drivers’ needs north of the Border. Adopting simple Scandinavian practices such as yellow backing for warning signs would improve drivers’ sighting considerably.
