Shrek 's origins

I refer to your article on Shrek (3 July) and whether or not the character was in support of independence for Scotland.

It was interesting but it omitted to explain why the makers of the films opted to make Shrek Scottish and to look so similar to Alex Salmond.

Does anyone have any information on this question?
