Is Kenneth Walton (Reviews, 19 March) unfamiliar with Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony or did he nod off during the performance, not realising we had a botched ending to it?

After the big climax towards the end of the last movement there should be the entry of the organ (or harmonium) then the music winds down to a quiet ending.

Instead we had a souped-up coda to the first movement, just the same one perpetrated by the St Petersburg Orchestra and
Temirkanov some years ago at the Festival – disgraceful!

A case of grandstanding, it would seem.

I do hope the conductor will return and play it properly, and to atone do it without fee!
