Shocking mess

Like Ellie Milne (Letters, 8 March), I have often wondered what visitors from abroad must think of our litter-strewn roads. Indeed, my Swedish in-laws have been quite shocked to find such a mess here.

The Central Belt is particularly bad for litter, but the A90 from Portlethen to Aberdeen is worse, combined with unkempt properties, damaged or faded road signs.

To top it all, visitors and potential investors are welcomed to the so-called “Oil Capital” by the sight of a boarded-up, graffiti-covered former petrol station.

If lazy Scots who make this mess have this sort of pride in their country, I can see no pride from them for independence.
