Shelter skelter

The new large bus shelters erected on the north side of Edinburgh’s Princes Street are certainly more elegant than their predecessors but, depressingly, they retain a basic design flaw, in that the view of approaching buses is blocked for the majority of those waiting inside by a large advertising panel.

Two possible explanations spring to mind: 1) Those designing the shelter and those approving it in Edinburgh Council have never waited for a bus; 2) They recognise the flaw but have sacrificed the convenience of bus passengers to maximise advertising income. Given the ongoing financial disaster caused by the trams fiasco, I fear the latter seems more likely.
