Shameful greed

Your report (7 October), that former defence secretary Liam Fox claimed 3p mileage allowance for travelling less than 100 metres by car is truly unbelievable.

If an elected member thinks this is acceptable practice then we taxpayers deserve better.

When someone is more intent on the detail in claiming expenses rather than the politics of running a democracy then it should come as no surprise that the electorate is truly being taken for granted.

This sort of claim should be rejected by the expenses office as flippant and as basically taking the Michael (to be polite). It is shameful.
