Sex workers
The term “sex worker” has been coined to aid the normalisation of prostitution. The report of the police raids on illegal brothels in Edinburgh used the term “sex workers”, but surely unbiased reporting should refrain from fully endorsing the current prostitution rebranding exercise.
Margo MacDonald MSP complained that these raids had undermined the “good working relationship” between the police and illegal brothels. May I remind Ms MacDonald that the duty of the police is not to have a “good working relationship” with criminal organisations, but to bring the full force of the law to bear on them.
Prostitutes should be treated by the police with the same dignity and respect as anyone else, but the complaint from a woman who routinely takes payment from men to have sex with her that she felt “violated” by a male police officer seeing her naked rings hollow.
