BILL Jameson is correct (Perspective, 19 March), there is a danger that anti-Scottish feeling in ­England (and Wales) may grow as the SNP tries to manipulate the UK parliament into the sort of single-issue constitutional politics that we now have in Scotland.

This is, of course, exactly what the SNP wants. Its goal is to destroy a relationship, so it has no interest in being reasonable, accommodating, reciprocating or fair. Its interests are better served by being demanding, unreasonable and abrasive – what Nationalists refer to euphemistically as “standing up for Scotland”.

They will then present the anti-Scottish sentiment that they have deliberately provoked to the Scottish people as a reason for independence.

So according to Bill Jamieson (“Beware the rise of a new Jockophobia”, Perspective, 19 March), Scots who voted “Yes” and do not intend to continue what used to be the status quo and vote for one of the three main parties, are courting trouble.

Perhaps some of the English electorate might get “irritated” by our ingratitude for all England has done for us? Throw their rattles out of the pram?

This time, though, there will be no cringing back across the Border, refusing to question our betters, as the National Anthem’s “rebellious Scots” refuse to be crushed.
