Selfish interests

Alastair Roberston (Fishing & Shooting, 21 June) and his angling buddies don’t seem that bothered by the strict protection afforded to Atlantic salmon by European Special Areas of Conservation when it comes to their own activities.

In 2012, the last year confirmed records were published, anglers slaughtered more than 6,500 adult breeding salmon from rivers in Scotland protected by the SAC designation in the name of sport.
