Seat of problem

With regard to your report and editorial (25 May) about cars getting wider, there is another factor for many families that you may not have considered.

The issue is child safety – child car seats, in fact. As you know, these are a legal requirement if you take children in a car and we found that our old car, a Peugeot 206, was not wide enough to take two children and their mother on the back seat. We, therefore, traded it in for a VW Touran seven-seater and now we can take our grandchildren and daughter with us in the car.

Since then, another baby has arrived and our daughter has also had to buy a wider car to accommodate three seats in the back.

I don't know what the solution is to the problem of narrow roads. Perhaps you can suggest one? We have not experienced any difficulties with the Touran, though a little patience is useful in crowded traffic conditions.
