SUNDAY CINEMAS, 4 May, 1950

Glasgow and Edinburgh cinema employees are opposed to the Sunday opening of the establishments in which they work. They have tabled motions for discussion at the national delegate conference of the National Association of Theatrical and Kine Employees, expressing their disapproval of Sunday shows. Glasgow workers also object to the proposed introduction by certain cinema circuits of late night opening. The main issue of the conference will be wages and the crisis through which production and distribution sides of the industry is passing. Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh are vigorously against any "wage freeze" for the industry. The executive will table a resolution suggesting international showing of films. This will be done through pressure of the TUC on the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions to get action in various countries to agree on a production and exhibiting plan.
