Scots will decide

This ignores the fact that it is not known who will govern in Holyrood, Westminster – or  indeed Brussels after the period of the referendum.

Even more importantly, I had imagined that the whole point of independence was that the people of Scotland will be free to decide what currency to use, and indeed what international bodies to join.

This line of thought raises a further question.

What will be the policies of the pro-Union parties if they  find themselves part of an independent Scottish Government negotiating such matters?

The dethroning of Winston Churchill after the Second World War was an example of such a sudden turn-around.

Peter Jones’s article, on which currency would be used in the event of a Yes vote (Perspective, 25 June), was interesting.

He made the point that a  separate currency would be better for true independence.

I am puzzled by the fact that the article does not raise the  spectre of the EU; have we not been promised by the SNP that Scotland will sign up to all things  European, meaning we would have to join the euro?

This would take us back to the original problem, ie no separate currency.
