Scots occupation

I WAS surprised that Allan Massie (Weekend Life, 10 May) appeared to have swallowed the nationalist myth that “we were never a conquered nation”. I am not sure if Oliver Cromwell would have agreed this was the case in 1651 as his army swept through Scotland – or, indeed, would the people of Scotland who lived under military occupation until 1660.
