Scots anthem

Canadian fans helped their curling team to victory by singing their anthem enthusiastically (your report, 22 February). This supports David Roche (Letters, 23 February) in asserting the importance of a good Scottish anthem. RB Irvine (Letters, 20 February) is correct in mentioning the use of the tune of Scots Wha Hae by Scots supporting Joan of Arc at Orleans. Old Scottish words to it began "Hey Tutti Taiti" but possibly Scottish troops sometimes improvised less &

The French Military Museum records its use at Orleans with the title Marche des Soldats de R Bruce. The French military still use the tune. The late Wendy Wood, artist, broadcaster and leader of The Scottish Patriots, insisted it be played as a quick march. As she remarked, in slow time it is the tune of the lament The Land of the Leal.
