Scotland’s MPs play vital role

THE three letters from Messrs Leslie, Orr and Hastie (“Scottish Labour can’t convert English Tories”, Debate, 19 May) show up the self-centredness of some Scottish nationalists.

For the sake of my relatives, friends and other people living in England, I would hope that Scotland will continue to provide Labour (and Lib Dem) MPs to a UK parliament. Often in the past we have been able to help provide a left-of-centre government.

Like all politicians, Gordon Brown has his weaknesses, but I for one (and there are others) can put my trust in him. He was more of a statesman than other recent prime ministers.
