Scotch myths

Instead of enjoying the excellent series The Seven Ages of Britain, Alistair McEwen chooses to seek a conspiracy by the BBC where none exists (Letters, 9 February).

We are told that the island of Great Britain did not exist in medieval times and, strangely, Mr McEwen thinks there were more than two independent countries lying within it at the time.

This programme explores Anglo-Saxon and Celtic art in the first episode and then, in the second, that of the church prior to the Reformation.

Unlike Spain, France, etc, there is little medieval art left in England and even less in Scotland, so thorough was the cleansing of Catholic artefacts.

I fear it is Mr McEwen's Scottish chauvinism that is still alive and kicking.
