Science fiction

You quote Dr David Clark as saying that the Ministry of Defence's policy on destroying UFO reports "would make it difficult to uncover the truth about incidents in the future" (your report, 1 March).

The MoD was never concerned to explain UFO reports; it was only ever concerned to know whether or not they represented any threat to the UK. Consequently, the MoD's new policy will make no difference to explaining UFO reports; that is best left to sceptical investigators like me.

In fact it has been clear for half a century that UFO reports have nothing to do with either enemy activity or visitors from space and I do not understand why the MoD bothered to examine UFO reports for so long. It has been a waste of time and money.
