Scare tactics

A banner headline states: “Fish will be quarter of size by 2050” (your report, 1 October). The first paragraph contradicts this scare-mongering lead-in by reporting that fish may shrink by almost a quarter over this period and later in the article we learn that their weight may decline by between 14 and 24 per cent.

Has The Scotsman recently employed a sub-editor directly from the Sun or another equally disreputable rag?

This form of “journalism” should be unacceptable in a quality newspaper and I sincerely trust that reporter Julia Horton or the headline writer will be taken to task for such flagrant disregard for the facts.
