Savile vileness

It’s unfortunate that the Lauder Common Riding Committee allowed a float depicting former BBC presenter, Jimmy Savile, and his victims to take part in their annual event (On Twitter, 9 August).

One expects fun and humour at such events but this was surely in bad taste. How will Savile’s victims feel learning that this vile individual was portrayed in such a way? It’s a sad reflection of modern society that some of the younger generation use the social media and public events to say things or take actions which cause others hurt and distress without thinking or caring about the consequences.

If they were victims, would they like to suffer in such a way? It’s all about a lack of common decency and respect for others.
