Sanday slur

The article about the outcome of the Sanday murder trial (your report, 3 March) is quite misleading.

It seeks to stress the fact that the unfortunate victim was an "incomer" to the island and goes on to note that he originated from Yorkshire. However, there was no attempt to point out that the two convicted parties were also incomers and falsely, but possibly unintentionally, left the impression that the native islanders were to blame and that they acted out of some hostility to the victim as an incomer. No native islanders were involved in this case at any level.

This type of misrepresentation tarnishes the image of the Orcadian people.
