Russian skills
Hugh Reilly (your report, 24 February) was a bit unfair about Russian teachers in complaining that 100 registered teachers of Russian produced only 13 candidates for Higher Russian. The sad fact is that these teachers of Russian are mostly teaching other subjects.
Russian has been virtually expunged from the curriculum in most schools.
There is little encouragement from government to keep it going so it can hardly be described as "Soviet-style ovemanning".
