Rural disservice

The report, “Less techno-babble, more speed” (Perspective, 10 October), referring to the contract to supply the Highlands and Islands with an improved broadband service, implies that this will appease “rural Scotland”.

Rural affairs secretary Richard Lochhead needs to be reminded that there are many other rural areas, such as the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, which are equally disadvantaged where the provision of broadband is lametable or non-existent.
