According to weekend reports Alex Salmond has supported a move by Roman Catholic Scottish Bishop Devine to remove discrimination against that denomination in the succession to the throne. If the First Minister is strongly of this view, then why does he retain the existing shape of the monarchy in his proposals for Scottish independence?
